Mongol Rally

During the summer of 2012, as part of a three-man team, I set off on a journey of a lifetime driving nearly 11,000 miles through 21 countries, from the UK to Mongolia, all in the name of charity and adventure. The car was no ‘normal’ car, it was something your grandmother would typically drive to the shops in! Hundreds of teams from around the world took part, choosing whichever route they decided through mountains, deserts, plains, and across seas, to eventually descend upon Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. We took what we affectionately named the ‘Goldilocks Route’, or more commonly known as the Southern Route, which would take us over the Caspian Sea and follow some of the ancient Silk Road trading route.

The two-fold aim of this remarkable event was to satisfy the spirit of adventure and raise money for The Lotus Children’s Center, the official charity nominated by the organizers: The Adventurists. Raising money was achieved by fundraising and by auctioning off the vehicle upon arrival to Ulaanbaatar.
